Most Shilajit Online Is a Scam — Here’s How We’re Different
Share
Here’s an actual email we once received while reaching out to health store owners:
"We would NEVER sell Himalayan Shilajit. It’s the worst on the market… I’ve seen how they add cow urine to it… you’re trying to sell a $5 product for $35–$40. Are you serious?"
Brutal, right? But we get it. Shilajit has a reputation problem—and honestly, it’s deserved. Most of what you see online is fake, dirty, or cut with fillers—and yes, sometimes that even includes cow urine.
How Can Reviews Be Glowing If It’s Fake?
If the market is flooded with fakes, why are reviews almost always glowing? Because shilajit is that remarkable. Even when diluted, its benefits still shine through.
It’s kind of like multivitamin gummies—sometimes cheap, sometimes overstuffed with sugar—but somehow, they still do their job.
The Commodity Trap
This is a classic commodity trap: when a product is widely copied, people focus on price and overlook what makes the best products truly special.
One brand online sells 20 g for $100, another for $25. The real question: are premium brands actually delivering something worth paying for?
Yes: Honest sourcing and purification takes weeks and is deeply labor-intensive. Real shilajit is worth it.
No: Premium branding doesn’t automatically guarantee premium shilajit. Expensive ≠ authentic.
Scaling Mountains vs. Slapping Labels
Real, pure shilajit grows between 12,000 and 18,000 ft above sea level—harsh, nearly inaccessible terrain, untouched by pollution or animals.
And yet, jars labeled 'Pure Himalayan Shilajit' are on every shelf worldwide. You really think all of them came from those heights?
Private Label Chaos
Most didn’t. Many are private-labeled: someone else makes the shilajit, and brands just slap their label on it. It’s like buying cookies, putting your name on the box, and calling them 'artisan.' Same cookies. Different stickers.
The China Factor
Many of these private-labeled jars aren’t even from the Himalayas—they’re made in factories in China, mass-produced, and labeled 'Pure Himalayan Shilajit' to sell at a premium.
Mountains, harsh altitudes, weeks of labor… versus a factory line pumping out identical jars by the thousands. If you’re a big brand with no real connection to the land, are you really going to make that trek and do that work?
And it gets crazier. Shilajit on platforms like Taobao? Most of it is a sample batch from private-label factories, labeled 'for overseas sale only.' In China, these products have been flagged for illegally containing drugs like Cialis or Viagra. Selling them there is straight-up illegal.
China does manufacture a huge portion of legitimate supplements, but in the e-commerce space, scale does not equal authenticity. Even brands with premium pricing often sell nothing more than a label—not the high-altitude, mineral-rich resin they claim.
Premium Price ≠ Premium Product
Price alone doesn’t tell the story. Expensive ≠ authentic. When it comes to shilajit, knowledge, sourcing, and labor matter far more than a sticker on the jar.
Why Sublime Is Different
That’s why at Sublime, we do things differently. The brand is in the name—sublime, from Latin sublimus, meaning “to elevate, to take to the next level.” We don’t take shortcuts, and we have a personal connection to the land in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
Back home, shilajit has long been valued for boosting male fertility, and over time it’s become synonymous with sexual vitality. But its benefits don’t stop there—both tradition and modern research highlight advantages for sugar control, nutrient absorption, focus, and overall vitality.
For us, shilajit represents a chance to bridge modern insights with traditional use, improving how it’s perceived and applied back home, while also acting as ambassadors of our homeland—bringing a time-tested tonic, a product that embodies the unique environment and spirit of the Himalayas, to the rest of the world.
The truth is, there’s still a huge knowledge gap. Those who have harvested shilajit for generations often lack the means to explain its benefits, while others exploit that gap for a quick profit.
At Sublime, we’re here to change that—bringing you authentic, high-altitude shilajit that honors its origins, preserves its potency, and reveals its full range of benefits.
Follow us as we lead with transparency, set a new standard, and show the world what real shilajit is supposed to be.
